Repeat Prescription

Repeat prescriptions can ordered in a number of ways:

Method 1: By using the repeat prescripiton counterfoil (or repeat card), writing down the details of the medication required
Method 2:By using the online form below.
Method 3: Via our clinical system, Patient Access

We are unable to take orders or issue repeat prescriptions on weekends, public holidays or out of normal surgery hours.

Allow a minimum of 48 hours for completion and allow extra time for weekends and public holidays. If a stamped, addressed envelope is included with your request, the prescription can be posted to you but please allow extra time for the postal service.

We also offer a collection service (operated by the majority of local chemists). Please ask the receptionist for details. Patients do need to indicate on their repeat request slip which chemist they wish to collect from and allow extra time for the prescription to be collected by the pharmacist.

The general rule is that patients are allowed four repeats before review by the GP - the exception being contraceptive and HRT therapy when repeats are only given during consultation with the GP.

Order Repeat Prescriptions Online Via Patient Access (Method 3)

If you are interested in registering for our online services - repeat prescriptions, appointments and viewing aspects of your medical record, please ask reception for a registration form. You will need to be aged 18 or over and provide 2 proofs of ID, one to be a photo ID.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £8.80
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £104.00
  • 3-month PPC: £29.10

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website
